Beijing, China, September 1, 2026 – Beijing Haichang Ocean Park, the largest new Aquarium facility currently under-construction in the world, has announced the target date of 2027 for its grand opening. The announcement was made as advanced vertical construction is taking place on site in Beijing’s Tongzhou district, next door to the popular Universal Studios Beijing resort.

Designed by US-based Legacy Entertainment, and its subsidiary, The Aquarium Design Company, the 157,100 square meter (1,700,000 square foot) facility will feature a next-generation Aquarium, as well as an eight-floor Resort Hotel. Upon completion, the complex will stand 23.9 meters tall, with three above-ground exhibit levels sitting upon two subterranean floors of parking and service. The Aquarium is expected to host 4,000,000 visitors annually. 

First announced in 2024, Beijing Haichang Ocean Park is being jointly developed by  Tongzhou Cultural Tourism Group and Haichang Ocean Park, one of China’s leading and most-respected operators of Marine Life Parks. The project is the first new Aquarium to be built in Beijing since 2000.

In addition to Haichang, Legacy Entertainment has, for many years, been making its  mark in the realm of innovative Aquarium and Oceanarium design around the world. Beijing Haichang Ocean Park marks the second collaboration between Haichang and Legacy Entertainment. The two firms previously collaborated on the design of Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, which debuted in 2018, and draws over 4,000,000 visitors each year, making it one of China’s top-attended Theme Parks.

Unlike its sister park in Shanghai, the new Beijing Haichang Ocean Park will be primarily set indoors, accounting for the region’s harsh winter climate.
