Concept to Reality: Galaxy Macau
When our journey with Galaxy began in 2006, the Asian gambling hub of Macau was looking for its own voice. Since opening to foreign casino operators two years earlier, the former Portuguese colony had seen an influx of Las Vegas transplants, including near-replicas of The Venetian, Wynn, MGM Grand, among others. The market was ready for something new, and Legacy Entertainment was brought on board to provide that. Galaxy Macau represented a seismic tonal shift for Macau’s Cotai district. Amidst a landscape of clones, Galaxy’s dramatic design broke with tradition and offered something completely new and original.
Instead of looking overseas for inspiration, Galaxy Macau’s signature design looked inward, taking cues from Asia’s rich tapestry of forms, colors, and features. The end result was Macau’s first resort to sport an Asian-inspired aesthetic, and the payoff has been plentiful. Upon its debut in 2011, Galaxy immediately because an icon of Macau, and this status has been equally reflected in the property’s robust business performance.
Concept to Reality: Studio City
Hot on the heels of the successful launch of Macau’s Galaxy resort in 2011, Legacy Entertainment was engaged by Melco’s Lawrence Ho to realize his vision for an all-new resort situated on the gambling mecca’s famed Cotai Strip. With the theme of ‘Studio City’ already established, the Legacy team worked closely with Ho to create a resort that, unlike others in Macau, would be focused on entertainment.
Over the course of the four-year period of design and construction, many groundbreaking entertainment and attraction concepts were created, ranging from a ‘hologram concert’ to actual theme park-style rides and attractions. The culmination of these efforts results in Studio City Macau- a $3.2 billion dollar mega-resort packed from floor to ceiling with ‘wow moments’. Chiefly among these is the Golden Reel- a colossal Figure-8 Ferris Wheel integrated into the resort’s iconic Art Deco façade.
Concept to Reality: Lotte Parade
When the time came for South Korea’s #1 theme park to celebrate their 25th Anniversary, Lotte World turned to Legacy Entertainment to provide something truly unique and special. The result was Let’s Dream!- the genre-bending and record smashing nighttime spectacular which quickly became the most beloved production in the park’s history. Combining a light parade with a multimedia spectacular in the park’s iconic atrium, the production boasted several groundbreaking elements, including the first large scale use of drones in a theme park setting, as well as the first use of a hologram-style effect in a parade.
To deliver this first-of-its-kind production, Legacy Entertainment assembled an all-star creative team packed with all star talent formerly of Walt Disney Imagineering and Cirque du Soleil. The culminating effort led to Disney fan site MiceChat to proclaim that Let’s Dream “may be the best light parade ever created”, as well as significant gains in both park attendance and visitor length of stay.
Concept to Reality: Pacific Rim, Shatterdome Strike
Named by Blooloop as one of the ‘Top 10 Dark Rides of the Last Decade’, Pacific Rim: Shatterdome Strike at Indonesia’s Trans Studio Cibubur theme park broke new ground by combining the thrills of a high-octane dark ride with elements of immersive theater. Throughout the entire experience, which lasts in excess of 20 minutes, visitors are continually shocked and surprised by the unfolding experience, never sure what to expect next. Pacific Rim: Shatterdome Strike represents a powerful example of the ways in which world-class dark rides and
Immersive attractions can be realized at regional theme parks and in developing economies through careful planning, as well as budget-conscious design and production phases. In the process of designing this first-of-its-kind attraction, Legacy Entertainment worked closely with Legendary Pictures to expand the Pacific Rim universe, creating new characters and creatures that are now officially part of the hit franchise.
Concept to Reality: Chimelong Marine Science Park
Introducing the World’s Largest Indoor Theme Park: Taking ‘Wow Factor’ to the next level, the Chimelong Marine Science Park in Zhuhai, China has changed the game for indoor theme parks. Throughout its nearly 4 million square feet, this one-of-a-kind facility offers its visitors a wide array of world-class marine life exhibits, family rides, and first-of-their-kind attractions. Built as a second gate for the adjoining Chimelong Ocean Kingdom theme park, the Chimelong Marine Science Park has been designed as the ultimate complimentary companion for its neighbor.
Within this colossal climate-controlled facility, visitors will be treated to rides, shows, and attractions completely distinct from those in the Ocean Kingdom, and the indoor nature of the park guarantees a perfect visit every day of the year, regardless of the Greater Bay Region’s extreme weather. This is truly an experience that must be seen to be believed.
