Hot on the heels of the successful launch of Macau’s Galaxy resort in 2011, Legacy Entertainment was engaged by Melco’s Lawrence Ho to realize his vision for an all new resort situated on the gambling mecca’s famed Cotai Strip. With the theme of ‘Studio City’ already established, the Legacy team worked closely with Ho to create a resort that, unlike others in Macau, would be focused on entertainment. Over the course of the four year period of design and construction, many groundbreaking entertainment and attraction concepts were creating, ranging from a ‘hologram concert’ to actual theme park-style rides and attractions. The culmination of these efforts results in Studio City Macau- a $3.2 billion dollar mega resort packed from floor to ceiling with ‘wow moments’. Chiefly among these is the Golden Reel- a colossal Figure-8 Ferris Wheel integrated into resort’s iconic Art Deco façade.

Fun Fact: A homophone for ‘wealth’, the number 8 is revered in Chinese culture as a symbol of wealth, luck, and prosperity. This informed the design of Studio City Macau’s iconic ‘Golden Reel’ Figure-8 Ferris Wheel
